BIO
Laura Lizcano is a Colombian-born Latin Alternative singer-songwriter based in New York City. Her music lives at the intersection of Latin American folk, indie, and alternative jazz, shaped by a childhood soundscape that included the iconic voices of Mercedes Sosa and Violeta Parra, a teenage obsession with early 2000s indie artists like Sufjan Stevens and Regina Spektor, and her college studies as a Jazz Voice major at Temple University in Philadelphia.
Lizcano has opened for Ana Tijoux, Deb Talan, Gaby Moreno, and Juan Wauters at iconic venues like Le Poisson Rouge and World Café Live. She has been featured in the Wawa Welcome America Festival (2020) and Philadelphia’s legendary Philly Folk Fest (2020–2022). Her collaborative work includes an ongoing partnership with Almanac Dance Circus Theatre, for whom she has written and performed original music in pieces presented at the Cannonball Festival, Miniball, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Almanac also appears in the music video for her song “Major Tom.” She has also collaborated with playwright Nick Jonczak on the dark comedy musical Americannibal.
Her discography includes a self-released debut EP, Chance on Me (2018), a full-length studio album, Heart (2020), and her most recent release, Daughter of the Sea (2022) — an album that reflects her evolution as a bilingual songwriter and features Dadealus Quartet on four bespoke string quartet interludes composed by Erin Busch. She is currently working on a new, fully Spanish-language project, funded in part by a Performance Plus Grant from Chamber Music America.
